Blue Standards Collection by Fitzhugh and the Fanatics

Description

Here’s a cool “best-of” collection of music I produced in the 1994-1996 period for my band “Fitzhugh and the Fanatics.”

At the time, I was on a mission to deepen my roots with a more Bluesy sound, and musically strike out on my own after my 8-year stint with the Instrumental Rock/Jazz Fusion group Gamalon.  I was attempting to uphold the great Jazz Standards that I had studied as a young teen, but also “un-compose” the songs by stripping them down, and revving them up, as far as they could go, often to only three chords, and instead of a swing beat, I substituted the Buffalo Shuffle beat that is so dear to my hometown’s heart.  These were also my vocal debut.

Career-wise the Fanatics never went much beyond local bar gigs …more for me learning the ropes about being a good and efficient band leader than for poor music or musicianship I think, looking back… but the first Blue Standards release got enough attention to get me signed to a small label for a second release (on Hot Wings Entertainment) for which two of this collection’s songs are from (All of Me and Teach Me Tonight).  I hope you enjoy these as much as I did creating them!

7 Tracks.  Blues Rock Jazz Standards with electric violin & “quatar” (fretless piccolo bass)
