I recently came across this nice video from a few years back that features a song I wrote for our gypsy jazz group Babik called Sweet Sustenance. There’s clips of an interview with the band in the middle, as this was part of a regular concert series and TV show that ran in Buffalo through the University’s Center for the Arts, produced by Robbie Takac of GooGoo Dolls fame (I look like I just woke up or something! Ha.). I kind of remember that I had cut off the tip of my index finger on my left hand in a kindling wood/hatchet accident the previous week, and think I was playing with a carefully disguised prosthetic finger pad I home-made with a lighter and a piece of milk jug plastic… the show must go on, right?? Yikes!
My solo starts about the 3:00 mark right after the interview section. It’s a decent solo I think, though I feel I played it better as the band matured in the years after this. I’ll include the studio recording of this song for your comparison too.
