Beginner’s Corner

COMING SOON!

OK…. I’ve seen the proverbial writing on the wall for a while now… Even though I originally and purposefully designed the overall Fiddle Jam Institute to be NOT for absolute beginners, and just for “near-beginners” and up, I was surprised when my video on YouTube that I did on a lark, entitled “VIOLIN SCRATCH AND SQUEAK HOW NOT TO,” an absolute beginner lesson, has now topped over 1/2 a MILLION views and counting!!  My other public videos might get a few thousand or maybe 10 or 20 thousand for an accessible topic, but HALF A MILLION?!…

OK, I’m listening, and as promised, plan on producing more beginner oriented lessons, even though I think it’s a bit dangerous to proceed without a flesh and blood teacher, maybe, just maybe…. I can be the one to provide some fun, hip, and no-nonsense starter tutorials?  I’m going to give it a shot.

In another related “metrics” point of interest, I’ve noticed how many folks interested in beginner violin online are not children, but ADULTS!  That was surprising to me, but delightful, as knowing this juicy bit will help target how I approach these lessons.  I have experience teaching adults.  As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I once had a 93 year old beginner violin student!  I’ve also had many other adults ranging from absolute beginners who always wanted to play and many folks who might have played a bit as a kid, and violin was just not cool enough back then, quit and regretted it their whole lives, to come to me and re-start again.

Maybe YOU fit into one of these molds?  Either way.  I think I can help you.  “Bucket List” or not!

Since you are reading this, it might mean that you have interest in this topic?  I’d rather create lessons for what people actually want to learn, even though I think I have a handle on it, I’m VERY interested to hear from you on what YOU would like to learn, and how you’d like to be taught it!  No question is too silly or dumb.  I welcome your comments below.

Here’s some lesson ideas that I have so far:

  • How to not scratch and squeak
  • The most important thing and adult beginner should learn first
  • Natural talent vs acquired skills
  • Do Re Me and it’s importance
  • How to train yourself to play in tune
  • Easy Fiddle Tunes
  • Easy Kid’s tunes
  • Easy Blues tunes
  • Easy Reggae tunes
  • Easy Cajun tunes
  • Easy Rock tunes
  • Easy Country tunes
  • Easy Church songs
  • How to jam in the first month
  • Why rhythm is the most important thing (it is?)
  • How to play backups to a song even when you don’t know the song
  • How to sit in at a pot luck pickin’ party
  • How to get over stage fright
  • more…

I’m sure we’ll think of more together!!!!

And yes, just like all the other learning materials in the Institute, I’ll leave a small amount of stuff for everybody to see for free, and bit more for those who are signed up officially for the Free Fiddle Jam Club newsletter, and Full access will be left for those enrolled in our All Access Pass level membership.  I may experiment with this material too and offer individual lessons for sale as needed too.  That’s some new territory I’ll have to go over with my webmaster nicknamed “Kumquat” (I know that’s a weird nickname, but the guy is like a genius when it comes to all this technical stuff, so I roll with it!), but I think we can do it, so you have learning options…. that’s another thing I’ve learned about adult learners! :~)

Exactly what I am looking for as a beginning.

Looking forward to seeing this! As someone with no musical background, and can only play twinkle twinkle little star badly, this holds great appeal. Till then I shall around and hopefully make sense of it all through determination and the googling of any musical terms I am unfamiliar with.
