Bucket List Fiddle Jam Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is there a difference between a Violin and a Fiddle?
Ans: No. They are the same. “Fiddle” is simply slang for “violin.”
Q: Am I too old to learn? Don’t you have to start young to be any good at playing the violin/fiddle?
Ans: Absolutely not! It is never too late to start. I’ve proven this many times over! Adult beginners, in my teaching experience, just need to be taught a bit differently than children to get good results and have an enjoyable experience.
Q: Don’t I need to have a natural born talent or gift to play the violin successfully?
Ans: No. In my experience, this can be learned and achieved, and I will guide you though some subtle techniques that I’ve discovered that can help “fast-track” the development of natural authority in your playing.
Q: I’ve heard that the violin is about the hardest instrument to play. Do I really have a chance to be any good at this?
Ans: Of course you do! Though the violin does have a few inherent challenges compared to other instruments (all which will be simply and clearly explained in the course), the rewards are greater than other instruments in regards to its expressive capabilities! It is claimed that the violin is one of the closest instruments to the human voice in the way it can swell and bend pitches at anytime within a single note for infinite possibilities of inflection!
Q: To take this course, will I have to know how to read sheet music?
Ans: No you will not. You can learn everything in this course without reading. That said, learning to read is a very helpful skill to have later, so I will also be providing a free “Non-Reader’s Cheater Sheet” bonus that will come with purchase of the course to help you get started with this when you are ready, or if you have desire to.
Q: Is it really possible to learn the violin/fiddle online and not in person with a flesh and blood teacher?
Ans: Yes it is. I admit that I did not think it was such a great idea at one point, but have had a change of heart and came to see that as a mistake on my part, and regret that I didn’t share earlier all the little tricks, tips and unique outside of the box approaches that I’ve developed over more than four decades of teaching.
Q: Can playing the violin injure me?
Ans: Not directly, unless you poke yourself in the eye with your bow, or drop the violin on your toe! 😉 That said, repetitive muscle, tendon and joint injuries can be a real issue, especially as we age, and every precaution will be taken to keep you relaxed and playing as naturally as possible, without pain.
Q: I don’t have an instrument yet. Is it better to buy, rent or borrow one?
Ans: As long the instrument is playable, you should be good to go, but I will provide a free bonus report on this very topic so you can make the best choice for your individual situation.
Q: Aren’t violins expensive?
Ans: Not necessarily. It is a fact that antique violins made by master makers in Cremona, Italy in the late 1600’s to early 1700’s do sell for millions of dollars each (!), but a good quality student instrument can be had for less than $300 USD as will be covered in the free bonus report mentioned above.
Q: I have a limited budget and you are claiming a pretty big result. Is the Bucket List Fiddle Jam Course going to be expensive?
Ans: Though I feel that the value of this course to you will be very high, to reach my goal of helping as many people as possible to have music in their lives, I have very reasonably priced the whole course to be less than a couple hours of private lessons with an average local teacher.
Q: I’m left-handed. Can I still play the violin?
Ans: Yes, of course you can. Most left-handed students still play the instrument in the traditional right-handed way. They just end up having the advantage with their fingering hand. I usually suggest this so you won’t need any special equipment or adjustments to the available instruments. If you are severely left-dominant and must hold the control of the bow in your left hand, it will only matter if you want to play in a traditional orchestra setting where everyone sits and bows symmetrically. If your goal is to play in more casual settings, either way is fine. *I addressed this in the Buy Or Borrow report (see #10).
Q: I used to play when I was a kid. Is this course OK for a “re-starter” like me?
Ans: Yes. Though re-starters may remember some, I’ve also found they sometimes remember bad habits that can now harm them too! Starting fresh in this adult-oriented self-paced course will work great for learners just like you!
Q: I already play other instruments on a pro or semi-pro level and just want to pick up the fiddle to have more options when performing. Will this course be too slow paced for me?
Ans: Great question! The goal of this course is to get people playing well as quickly as possible, and that should be perfectly in alignment with musical pros as well as newbies. The materials will be presented in a self-paced fashion, so you can go as fast or slow as you desire. I also have developed a unique “One-Room Schoolhouse” (ORSH) method of teaching that gives special tips and tricks wherever possible for those that are ready, while still staying on point for the goal of that particular lesson.
Q: What if I decide Bucket List Fiddle Jam is not for me?
Ans: I will be offering a full 30-day, no questions asked, money back guarantee. If Bucket List Fiddle Jam is not for you, or things just change in your life and you won’t have time to use the materials, just let me know. I am providing multiple ways to contact me to get a refund.
Q: How will I access the course materials and how will they be presented?
Ans: Bucket List Fiddle Jam will be presented online in a special members-only area of the Fiddle Jam Institute website in 24 main video lessons with the addition of daily 10-minute practice-along videos. As stated above, there will also be multiple downloads that come with purchase including play-along tracks and special reports that you can print out as needed.
Q: Will I be able to get personalized attention if I need it?
Ans: Private lessons with me are a separate item (available in the Fiddle Jam institute School Store), but as part of the course, you will also have access to a private Facebook group where the video portions of the course will be re-posted and students can digitally chat, ask questions, or even post their own performances for comment and encouragement from myself and other students.
