Originally the follow-up to Fitz’s first book, “Fiddle Jam, a way-cool easy way to learn how to improvise!” (Hal Leonard Corp.), this digital re-release of “Rock & Blues Fiddle Jam A-Toodz” is the answer to the plea of, “but, I don’t know what to play!” (when improvising).  “A-Toodz” is essentially a musical vocabulary-building library of very “fiddle-istic” licks and tricks, taught one measure at a time, in the most popular string-friendly keys, from very easy beginner riffs to quite advanced tricks that even the Classically trained might stumble on at first glance.

These riffs and tricks come straight from the mind and fingers of Fiddle Jam founder, Geoffrey Fitzhugh Perry and his nearly 40 years of jamming (improvising) on the fiddle/violin in all kinds of musical situations.  “The pentatonic-based scales of Blues and Rock music is the foundation that the Classically trained and sometimes even Bluegrass musicians have missed the mark on in their experience and training,” says Fitz.  “These scales, slides, “blue” notes, and special double string drones are the key to your ‘coolness factor!”

This book is not meant to be played from beginning to end like normal “etudes” and song books, but dissected one measure, one “riff,” one “lick” at a time, as each student is ready, repeating up to the nearest double bar until a comfortable rhythmic “groove” is established.  This unique approach makes this volume very adaptable to many educational scenarios, from individual private study, to large group (like school orchestras) and can be a great “call and answer” library for teachers, where the teacher plays a phrase and students play it back, either “open-book” reading along, or “closed-book” responding only by ear.

After the 3 levels of studies in each key (beginner/intermediate/advanced), a page of “Groove-Toodz” gives you something to put what you’ve learned to more real-life use.
