New Changes coming to FJi!

Hey fiddle jamming enthusiasts!

I’m getting really excited about upgrading a number of features at the Fiddle Jam Institute!

  • I’m going to reinvigorate the Fiddle Jam Club Newsletter.
  • You can expect to see me start to convert more individual song lessons from the FJi Library to single items in our school store for those who might not want to sign up for the All Access Pass with it’s monthly fee (no matter how low a fee, or valuable, I think it is :)).  I think I’ll start with some Fiddle tunes and most likely lift some of the Blues fiddle songs from the Blues Violin Course I released last year.
  • After the surprising runaway success of my “VIOLIN: Scratch and Squeak How Not To” YouTube video (heading towards 1 million views now!!  Wow!), I’m brewing on many more beginner lessons, and am planning on releasing them slowly, in the FJi Library, one at a time, for a while, before combining the best of them into a stand-alone course.
  • I’m also getting really excited about my new electric violin pickup design that I’ve been slowly R&Ding over the past few years.  I think it could possibly be a game changer for electric violin world.  My good friend, and, in my opinion, the world’s greatest electric violin maker, Eric Aceto of Ithaca Stringed Instruments, has checked one of my early prototypes out on a winter visit to my home in Florida, and has really encouraged me, saying the same.  Why can I/we say this?… Today’s existing piezo-based pickup systems are meant to amplify an acoustic sound.  Many of these are pretty terrible sounding, sounding more like an irritating soprano sax than a tonally rich acoustic violin.  The best ones (like Eric’s) do a pretty good job, but still keep the electric violin squarely in the acoustic music world, although louder.  If you think about this, the guitar world would NEVER stand for playing an acoustic guitar through a cranked guitar amp!  The result would surely be a feedback-prone tonal mess!  It is time that the violin gets into the electric guitar world.  My invention will allow any player to plug into any guitar amp without a pre-amp, straight in, and crank!… even with distortion, just like the greatest Blues or Rock guitarists!!  Musically, this might take some time to get players used to this world, but I intend on being this new sound’s ambassador, and you can expect to hear not only more educational material from me along these lines, but also more performances from me using this new violin technology.  So, stay tuned!!!
